Call For Art: Disability Arts Exhibition & Community Project
Submit by July 9th, 2023 to alexis.m.neumann@gmail.com
Call for entry: Artists working in the subject of Disability Arts are invited to propose work for the Disabled Arts Exhibition and Community Project. This exhibition will showcase Pacific Northwest artists creating compelling and diverse work in any medium within the field of Disability Arts. All selected artists should be available to participate in community-building gatherings leading up to the exhibition in Portland, Oregon to make space for generative discourse around Dis-Arts.
Theme Details: Disability Arts is a powerful means to explore and express aspects of the human condition. Interpretation of the theme is intentionally broad, allowing each artist to explore different aspects of disability, how it relates to society, culture, and personal lived experience.
We encourage artists to explore the depths of their creativity through artwork that honors the diversity of disability in the arts, such as celebrating the non-normative body, creating discussion around access, etc., including but not limited to physical disabilities, mental health, invisible illnesses, chronic pain, and any/all health conditions. Any self-identified disabled artists working within these themes are welcome to apply. If there are any questions please do not hesitate to reach out.
Submission Details: Emerging or established artists are asked to submit a short personal statement about why you are interested in this project, including what concepts or ideas you want to explore. In addition, please include either a link to a portfolio/website or 5-7 images with descriptions of past work by email to alexis.m.neumann@gmail.com and/or dmarieconner@gmail.com.
Participants are encouraged to create new work for the exhibition inspired by the community-building participatory project. All submission proposals must be original creations of the participating artists.
Deadline for entry is July 7, 2023.
*We recognize that living with disability can look different for everyone, and we want to encourage applicants to please reach out to us for assistance if more time is needed or if another form of submission is preferred.
Compensation: Artists will be paid a stipend for their active and engaged participation in the exhibition and project, as well as documentation of their work and copies of the publication generated through the project.
This project is supported by the generous contribution of PICA through a Precipice Fund grant.
